PEDESTRIAN, 86, DIES WEEKS AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR
A 86-year-old man has died weeks after he was struck by a car while crossing a road.
The pedestrian was taken to Sandwell Hospital with a head injury following the crash on the A34 Walsall Road in Great Barr, Birmingham, at about 10:00 BST on 18 July.
West Midlands Police said he was moved to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for surgery but died on 19 August.
The force said the driver had left the scene but has since been identified and is helping officers with inquiries.
No arrests have been made, the force added.
Det Sgt Paul Hughes said officers were still in the early stages of the investigation.
He added: "The collision occurred on the city bound side of the carriageway between the junctions of Old Walsall Road and Stanford Avenue.
"The victim was crossing the road when the collision occurred and the car failed to stop at the scene.
"We would appeal for witnesses to the incident to please contact us or anyone who have have seen a red Toyota Celica being driven prior to the collision."
